The conference will be chaired by Roy Wilsher of the UK National Fire Chiefs Council. The final programme features two other members of the NFCC: chief fire officers Mark Hardingham (Suffolk) and Chris Lowther (Tyne and Wear) and Chair of NFCC Operations Committee. From Germany, Prof Dr-Ing Michael Reick is a regional fire chief in Göppingen. Michael will detail smoke control techniques in high rise firefighting operations.
Conference Director Russ Timpson of the Tall Building Fire Safety Network commented: “This is a very timely meeting of firefighters from across the UK, Europe and internationally. The procedures for fighting fires in high-rise buildings must be reviewed and improved.”
The conference will be the largest gathering of firefighters working on high-rise firefighting in recent years. There will be time during the conference for open question and answer sessions.
Serving firefighters can benefit from a specially discounted delegate rate of £95. The normal delegate fee is £395. “When should life safety systems (sprinklers) be commissioned during the construction process?”
May 20 will see the Construction Fire Safety Conference come to London alongside FIREX at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre.
A recent spate of high-profile construction fires has raised questions about the efficacy of standards, guidance, insurance and risk management. HSE Principal Inspector Ray Cook will provide latest thinking from the HSE on Construction Fire Safety. The conference will be a timely opportunity to explore the latest government guidance regarding façade testing and general building safety. The interaction of the CDM Regulations, HSG 168 and insurance requirements will be discussed and debated. One of the key questions that need to be answered: “When should life safety systems (sprinklers) be commissioned during the construction process?”
Conference Director Russ Timpson of the Tall Building Fire Safety Network commented: “This is a very timely meeting of construction fire safety colleagues from across the UK, Europe and internationally. Modern methods of construction, increased use of timber and new technology such as BIM require us to constantly revaluate our techniques and processes with regard to the risk of fire.”
Finally, May 21 will see the Crisis Management in Tall Buildings Conference.
Recent events such as terrorist attacks, cyber hacks, and drone scares have made the discipline of crisis management in tall buildings more relevant than ever. Keynote speaker for the morning session will be Stuart Osbourne QPM. He is a former Chief Police Officer retiring from The Metropolitan Police as a Deputy Assistant Commissioner where he held several national and international policing portfolios. More recently he has worked as a senior executive in a FTSE top 50 defence organisation with global responsibility for risk and security.
Conference Chair Andy Baker QPM commented: “The increase in the size and complexity of tall buildings in city centres means that we must stay ahead of emerging threats such as attacks and workplace violence, drones, and daily challenges that may disrupt businesses.”
Serving law enforcement officers and emergency service personnel can benefit from a specially discounted delegate rate of £95. The normal delegate fee is £395.
