The 2025 Phoenix Challenge team at the top of Pen Y Fan
Despite poor weather, the sixth Stu’s Phoenix Challenge has again given a welcome boost to the Fire Fighters Charity.
The annual event is held in tribute to Group Commander Stu Crebbin of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service who died in March 2021 aged just 46 after a 12-month battle with cancer.
In 2020, he undertook The Brecon Beacons 10 Peaks Traverse (East to West) with his Phoenix Challenge team.
Despite having intense chemotherapy and immunotherapy sessions in the lead-up, Stu completed most of the challenge
This year the team retraced the steps of the original route walked by Stu. Despite rain and fog adding to the complexity of the challenge, spirts remained high and the group completed the 38-mile route in 19 hours.
But now there’s a new challenge ahead.
“In line with Stu’s vision of fundraising inclusivity, the Phoenix Challenge continually adapts,” said Firefighter Spencer Jones, who heads up the fundraising activity.
“The next event this year is a Church Tower Abseil and full details will follow soon.
“To date we’ve raised £25,700; our target is to reach £30,000 following the tower abseil in August.”
