Fire service takes animated approach to support businesses

New support for businesses around the county is now available to help ensure they are keeping their premises fire safe.

Following changes to the Fire Safety Order in 2023, all companies with a premises need to have a Fire Risk Assessment, which is a written and recorded assessment identifying any risks or hazards. It should also include an action plan to fix any findings.

To help businesses get started, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service has produced a series of animated videos giving an introduction to key elements of fire safety, including Fire Risk Assessment.

Group Commander Sean Hedger, head of the Fire Protection area of the Service, said: “We know the subject of fire safety can be a bit dry and is often not at the top of a business owners to-do list. To help make it easier to access the information they need, as well as make it a bit more engaging than reading a guidance document, we have produced short, animated videos.

“The first videos provide a basic introduction to Fire Risk Assessment, which is a key element to any company with a premises. The animation breaks down the key elements of an assessment to help the responsible person get started, as well as where to go for more information.”

The animations can be found in the Business Safety section of the fire service’s website, along with lots of other information, including how to attend a Fire Safety Presentation.
