#30Days30Ways UK is held each September and is a Preparedness Month campaign.

As it enters its 10th year, the campaign has been taken under the stewardship of the Emergency Planning Society (EPS). Since 2015, the #30days30waysUK campaign has aimed to inspire and empower people and the communities they live in to be ready and better prepared for different risks – and their consequences – including flooding, fire and power cuts.

To achieve this aim, throughout the month of September each year, a daily preparedness theme is shared on social media using the hashtag #30days30waysUK.

Using a positive psychology approach including memes and light-hearted content, the posts link to information and trusted resources created by Local Resilience Forums and partners including the emergency services, local authorities, health, utilities, the voluntary sector and others. There is also a daily opportunity to be entered into a prize draw.

The resources are also available via email.

EPS Interim Chair Jeannie Barr said: “#30days30waysUK encourages people across the UK to think about the easy steps they can take to “be prepared not scared”. These are unprecedented times that highlight the importance of personal and community preparedness and resilience.

“Excellent information and resources exist nationwide to help people to be better informed and prepared for all kinds of emergencies. Resilience is a culture of preparedness and there are small and easy steps everyone can take for their health and safety and that of their family, friends and neighbours. We look forward to sharing just some of those steps throughout the campaign.”

Co-founders of the campaign, Joanne Maddams and Monika Al-Mufti, said: “We are very excited to be launching this year’s #30days30ways campaign and that it has found a new home under the stewardship of the Emergency Planning Society. We hope that this year’s campaign will have even more impact in promoting emergency preparedness across the UK.

“We are excited to once again share many inspiring preparedness messages and stories in addition to brilliant resources along with colleagues from across the UK every day during the campaign.  Never before has there been a more important time to communicate risk in a positive, constructive and empowering way.”
