With the warm, dry weather forecast set to continue over the next few weeks, it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beautiful countryside and beaches that Wales has to offer. However, in these conditions, the risk of grass fires increases dramatically. To help prevent fires, please be mindful when lighting campfires, barbecues, or discarding cigarettes.
Since the start of April, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) have attended 256 grass fires, some of which started deliberately. These fires not only threaten wildlife and their habitats but can also endanger nearby communities, property, and agriculture.
The Wales Wildfire Board are encouraging everyone to be #WildfireWise and commit to simple precautions, a little extra care will ensure we can continue to enjoy our beautiful countryside and keep our communities safe from the devastating effects of fire.
It’s important that everyone exercises caution to help reduce the risk of fires during these weather conditions:
Remember – If are out enjoying the countryside and you do come across any suspicious activity, please call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or ring 101. In an emergency, always call 999.
