Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has played a significant role in the recall of several thousand potentially dangerous tumble dryers.
After a fire in a tumble dryer earlier this year, Bromsgrove Fire Station submitted a product-related fire notification to the Office for Product Safety and Standards.
The OPSS liaised with the victim of the fire and attended a forensic examination of the tumble dryer.
Steve from Worcestershire, the fire victim, said: “We are lucky that we were in the room at the time of the incident.
“It’s scary to think of how different the outcome may have been otherwise with how fast the fire spread.”
After the tumble dryer examination, the OPSS wrote to Haier, the manufacturer of eight affected brands, with a ‘requirement to warn’ notice.
This places Haier under a statutory obligation to contact those owners who were part of the company recent Corrective Action Programme. More than 17,000 heat pump tumble dryer owners whose appliances were modified by Haier after safety reports in May this year must stop using them immediately because a fire risk still exists.
Brands involved include Baumatic, Candy, Caple, Haier, Hoover, Iberna, Lamona and Montpellier.
