Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Appoints Senseia to Support its Journey Towards Cultural Transformation

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is pleased to announce the appointment of Senseia, an independent cultural change consultancy, as part of its commitment to enhancing organisational culture and operational effectiveness.

This appointment follows the findings of a recent independent culture review conducted by Crest Advisory, which highlighted critical areas for improvement within the Service.

The report, available for public access here, provides an in-depth assessment of the current cultural landscape of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, identifying both strengths and areas needing development.

Key findings from the review underscore the necessity for a cohesive and supportive workplace culture where all personnel feel valued and engaged. The report calls for a shift in leadership styles, enhanced communication strategies and the establishment of accountability measures to ensure a positive environment conducive to high performance.

In response to these findings, Senseia, appointed after a robust procurement exercise, has been retained to guide the Service on its cultural journey. With a proven track record in transforming organisational cultures within various sectors, including blue light emergency services, Senseia will work closely with the Service and its staff to implement actionable strategies aimed at fostering a culture of trust, collaboration and inclusivity.

Roger Thomas KFSM, Chief Fire Officer of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, emphasised the importance of this appointment, stating,

“The appointment of Senseia comes at an important time within our culture improvement journey and we look forward to welcoming Senseia into our organisation.

“We are committed to ensuring that our workplace is not only safe and resilient but also one in which our staff can thrive.

“The insights provided by the Crest Advisory report will play an integral role in our transformation and we are confident that with the expertise of Senseia, we will be able to foster  a supportive and dynamic working culture for all our personnel.”

Jason Langley, Co-founder of Senseia, also commented on the partnership:

“We are honoured to be entrusted with the opportunity to support Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service on this vital cultural journey.

“Our aim is to help the Service make the most of its own resources in fresh and creative ways. We want to help build a team where everyone feels proud and responsible for providing a service the community needs and expects. Our goal is to leave the organisation stronger, with everyone motivated to keep finding better ways to improve.”

As Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service embarks on this transformative path, the appointment of Senseia marks a significant milestone in addressing organisational culture and ensuring that the Service continues to meet the needs of its staff and the communities it protects.
