“I consider myself really lucky”: What happens when services cultivate the right culture

In the last issue of FIRE there was a focus on culture in the fire sector and scrutiny of how it looks after its people following the publication of the Independent Culture Review of London Fire Brigade in November 2022. The Fire Brigade Union (FBU), and the Asian Fire Service Association (AFSA) both commented on the findings, voicing concern for the people involved and support for the fire sector going forward. The FBU stated: ‘We have raised concerns about many of the issues contained within this report historically and as a consequence we remain sceptical about the changes senior leaders will implement with regards to their own behaviours’. Chair of the AFSA, Dalwinder Rai, said: “We pledge to review the report in detail and reflect and redouble our efforts nationally and regionally to support cultural transformation.”
