Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) has just finished rolling out Unblur’s digital Incident Command Software, IRIS Core and Tactics across all the services appliances and command vehicles.
HFRS is committed to equipping its frontline crews with cutting-edge digital technology. As part of this vision, Officers in Charge will be equipped with IRIS Tactics on mobile devices, while the traditional command support wallet will be replaced by IRIS Core on appliance tablets.
This enhanced capability will provide real-time situational awareness and live information sharing across HFRS’ command units, fire control, Tactical Coordination Groups (TCG), and Strategic Coordination Groups (SCG).
To support this rollout, Unblur has successfully integrated HFRS’s Site Specific Risk Information (SSRI), hydrant data, and GPS-based appliance tracking systems into the IRIS platform.
Looking ahead, with the planned deployment of HFRS’s Command and Control Vision 5 software in late 2025, IRIS will be fully integrated—delivering a seamless and unified operational command solution.
Unblur’s IRIS Core system processes all incoming data from the field, ensuring that commanders receive accurate, appropriately formatted, and timely information. This facilitates faster task completion and more efficient incident resolution. By delivering comprehensive real-time situational awareness through rich data, without overwhelming its users, IRIS Core enables officers to rapidly concentrate on critical priorities and make informed decisions in dynamic situations. Consequently, this streamlined process leads to improved decision-making, better outcomes, and enhanced post-incident review and learning.
Steve Duffield, Emergency Response Area Manager at Humberside said,
“The implementation of Unblur’s incident command system represents a significant step forward in our digital transformation journey.
“The platform not only enhances situational awareness and decision-making on the incident ground, but it also plays a crucial role in safeguarding our operational crews; with the ability to share incident information dynamically, quickly and remotely to those that need it and when it is needed.”
The Service has worked closely with Unblur to roll-out the comprehensive incident command solution across all levels of operation. From the outset, the collaboration has been centred around ensuring the system is intuitive, reliable, and responsive to the unique challenges of emergency response.
Steve McLinden, Senior Account Executive of Unblur said:
“It has been a privilege to support Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s comprehensive project team in delivering their strategic vision. Through the implementation and go-live of Unblur’s IRIS Core and Tactics solution, we’ve helped enhance incident command, situational awareness, and operational learning across the service. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to equipping frontline responders with intuitive, reliable, and future-ready technology.”
