Peter Davies, former Chair of the Firefighters Charity, has been awarded an OBE for services to charity in the King’s Birthday Honours.
Peter Davies OBE has worked tirelessly to promote the work of the Fire Fighters Charity and his life-long enthusiasm has seen him undertake all voluntary roles since 1981. Peter was made a Life Patron of the charity in 2021 and his support is unwavering after 44 years’ service. His charitable work also includes being leader of the fire group of the Blue Light Cycling Club.
Peter joined Kent Fire Brigade in 1979 and became a member of the service’s Health and Safety Accident Investigation Team. He retired from the service after 31 years and continues to work full-time as Managing Director and owner of Southern Antennae Ltd – a busy audio-visual and security company he started in 1980.
A major impact for the Fire Fighters Charity has been his contribution to the development of the Harcombe House centre as it underwent a £1.8 million refurbishment in being repurposed to provide wellbeing support for firefighters and their families.
Peter said of receiving the honour: “I’m incredibly honoured to receive this award, but I share it wholeheartedly with my wife Jenny, whose unwavering support over 43 years has made everything possible.
“This recognition is also for the countless volunteers and non-profit organisations whose quiet dedication often goes unseen – they are the backbone of everything we achieve.”
FIRE Editor and former Fire Fighters Charity Chair Andrew Ledgerton-Lynch OBE said: “Peter’s contribution to the charity is inestimable as an unswerving advocate for the charity over many decades. His passion is obvious everywhere he goes, and whoever he speaks to. What few people realise is the immense effort and contribution Peter has put into the charity behind the scenes and beneficiaries have benefitted enormously from this mostly unseen contribution. I am absolutely delighted that he has received this well-deserved recognition.”
