CROSS-UK wins the Collaboration of the Year Award at the Excellence in Fire & Emergency Awards 2023

The Collaboration of the Year Award recognises an individual or team that has participated in a collaboration which has made a discernible improvement to the community they serve.

Presented by FIRE magazine, the Excellence in Fire & Emergency Awards celebrate the achievements of the fire and emergency services. As winner of this award, CROSS-UK was recognised as ‘demonstrating innovation and ingenuity, providing best practice and best value, and showing flexible and effective working practices’.

“ The CROSS team are delighted to have been recognised at the Excellence in Fire and Emergency Awards, we were bowled over to receive such prestigious recognition of the team effort. We all feel that we will make a difference, to help change and improve the culture in design, construction and management of buildings, to improve the safety of people in and around buildings. Receipt of the award has created more interest, which is exactly why we submitted an application- we will not reap all of the benefits of CROSS until we are fully embedded in the fire sector, when most people are aware of us, subscribe to our newsletter and trust us enough to submit reports. This award marks a good step forward. Thank you to the team at Fire-Knowledge and especially to Andrew Lynch for creating this event, a true visionary and eminent thought leader for fire safety” – Quote from Neil Gibbins QFSM, Fire lead – CROSS-UK

CROSS, which stands for Collaborative Reporting for Safer Structures, is the unique safety reporting scheme jointly owned by the IStructE and ICE, and supported by the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE). Since 2005, CROSS has shared knowledge to help built environment professionals make structures safer.

In 2019, following recommendations made by Dame Judith Hackitt’s post-Grenfell Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, the remit of CROSS was expanded to cover fire safety as well as structural safety.

CROSS were also nominated as finalists for two other categories at the awards, Resilience and Learning from Major Incidents and the International Best Practice Award.
